Start[ | ]

The Ostrich

hero first name shakes you awake. "There are two passenger ostriches outside the capital! And one of them has to be the same one that came earlier!" You immediately look in your mind's eye and after a few seconds of searching, your heart swells. It's the same glorious bird! And it came back with a friend! What do you do?

  • Send hero name to feed them.
  • Send hero name to capture them. Such a delicate species must be protected!
  • Send hero name to kill and prepare them for a feast tonight.
  • Watch and bask in their majesty.

If the hero from the previous ostrich event is still alive, the same hero will be selected for this event. Otherwise, it will be a random deployable hero from the player's retinue. If none are available, this event does not occur.

Feeding the ostrich[ | ]

Outcomes[ | ]

There are two possible outcomes, all equally likely.

Easy Does It

The ostriches are cautious, only moving towards the sack of bird seed after several minutes and even then only in one-step increments. Finally the moment arrives and the great birds begin to eat. Voraciously. When it's all gone, they turn to hero name and raise their wings in a display of color so dazzling that it causes the hero to faint from happiness.

hero first name has gained the Ostrich Vision trait and Tranquil personality.

Love Birds

It seems passenger ostriches have become a bit... angrier since they were last seen because as soon as it saw hero name walking up it lunged forward in a relentless flurry of talons, feathers, and beak bites. Thankfully the horns managed to scare it away before any permanent physical damage was done, but the psychological damage may be another matter.

hero first name has gained the Flincher personality trait as well as the Leg Injury status.

The first paragraph is reused from the first event, even though the text refers to only a single ostrich.

Catch the ostrich[ | ]

Outcomes[ | ]

There are two possible outcomes, both equally likely.

Ready and Willing

Well that was easy. As soon as the Capital doors are opened, the birds run into the courtyard and sit down with what can only be described as "delighted" expressions. Plans for a more suitable enclosure are quickly drawn up and when construction begins that night, you are flooded with hundreds of requests from the citizens who wish to help. Apparently the ostrich was a sacred bird to many of them.

Corruption has decreased in first region name and second region name.

The regions will be randomly selected from those with a keep and at least some corruption. If there is one such region, then only that one will be affected, and if there no such regions, then this outcome has no effect.

Net Losses

The net was a bad idea. Once the ostriches were caught in it they went crazy and became a rolling mass of feathers and talons. Everyone could hear the screeches as they did everything they could to escape. Finally, one of them managed to cut a hole large enough for their heads to stick out, but in the struggles the poor things just ended up strangling themselves to death. You can already hear citizens crying.

Corruption has increased in first region name and second region name.

The regions will be randomly selected from those with a keep. If there is one such region, then only that one will be affected, and if there no such regions, then this outcome has no effect.

Eating the ostrich[ | ]

Outcomes[ | ]

There are two possible outcomes, both equally likely.

Good Eating

Passenger ostrich meat is renowned for its incredible flavor and it definitely held true tonight! The feast encompassed five courses, three breaks, and, incredibly enough, ten entire barrels of Ol' Verhoeven. By the end everyone had to be carried out on stretchers as if their blissful stomachs and minds had transcended to a higher plane of tasteful existence.

All heroes in your retinue have gained XP.

The amount of XP awarded for each hero is the greater of 10 percent of his or her current XP or 500 points.

Overcooked

The feast is delicious! ...until the vomiting begins. Ostrich meat is extraordinarily volatile and the slightest miscalcuation in preparing it can spell disaster for one's gastrointestinal tract as everyone seems to be learning tonight.

All heroes in your retinue have gained the Sickly trait and lost XP.

The amount of XP each hero loses is equal to 5 percent of his or her current XP.

Watching the ostrich[ | ]

Outcome[ | ]

Beautiful

Like before, the birds spend a few minutes grazing before opening their wings and running aimlessly around the field. It looks even more ridiculous this time, but you still can't help but feel blissful watching them. When they're finished, they retreat back to the forest and you happily sink into your chair with a sigh.

There is a 50% chance that a followup event will occur in 20 years.
