Start[edit | edit source]

The Commoner's Queen

For the past several months, a woman calling herself the Commoner's Queen has been gaining a following in region name. She initially wasn't considered a threat because her admirers were so disorganized, but now things have changed. Her efforts to help those frustrated by your failures have led to a swell of support, one that could spread to the entire nation which explains why her entourage is currently outside of the Capital requesting an audience with you!

  • Let her come.
  • Deny her entry. We should not give her "reign" legitimacy.
  • We can't have dissenters now when we're this close... Have hero name make it look like an accident.

This event can only trigger if:

  • At least 150 years have passed since the start of the game.
  • There are at least three heroes in the retinue that are not Disheartened.
  • There is at least one keep with active corruption.
  • The nation has at least two keeps.

The region will be a randomly selected region with some active corruption, and the hero will be randomly selected from the retinue from those who are not Disheartened.

Let her come[edit | edit source]

The Proposition

She steps into the capital alone and stands before you. "I'm not going to waste your time. I don't believe you're a good Ruler and I know I would be, but, unfortunately I'm not immortal and I want to help the people as much as I can while I'm here. My proposition: Give me hero name, second hero name and third hero name to serve as my protection and help with my plans for as long as they live, and I'll promise to do everything I can to make sure this nation isn't taken over by the Cadence."

  • Let her take the heroes permanently.
  • Politefully refuse her offer.

The additional two heroes are randomly selected from those remaining in the retinue who are not Disheartened.

Let her take three heroes[edit | edit source]

Outcomes[edit | edit source]

There are two possible outcomes, both equally likely. The first outcome does not resolve immediately, but occurs in four separate parts.

The Two Rulers

Her face flashes relief before returning to a steely gaze. "Thank you... I'll take good care of them, you have my word." She nods to the heroes and they leave without a second look back.

hero name, second hero name, and third hero name have left your retinue and the Commoner's Queen has set out to help the people!

The next part of this outcome will occur 10 to 15 years later.

Long Live the Queen

The Commoner's Queen has kept her word! By uniting the people under a banner of positivity, resilience, and tenacity, she and her followers have managed to lessen the corruption in region name!

A Triumph

End of the Line

Word has reached you that the Commoner's Queen has passed away! Unfortunately, her leadership was the only thing holding her followers together so now that they've broken apart, it is unlikely that you will ever receive their help in lessening the nation's corruption again.

We Do Not Negotiate

She grants you a smile. "Thank you." The group leaves the Capital that night, but an hour after their departure, you learn that they were ambushed on the road! By her own followers! They were furious that she had sought a meeting with the "Despot" and then when she actually accepted help from you, that was the final straw. Their vengeance was swift and without mercy.

hero name, second hero name, and third hero name have been lost and corruption has increased in region name.

Keep the heroes[edit | edit source]

Outcomes[edit | edit source]

There are two possible outcomes, both equally likely.

Hope For You Yet

She nods. "No compromises. I respect that. Heh, maybe you're smart after all." When she leaves the Capital that night, you prepare for a possible deluge of angry citizens, but they never come. Instead, hundreds of the Queen's followers arrive to say that they're just happy you met with her in the first place! One of them even comes up to you and shakes your hand. "You're showing real progress, acknowledging other viewpoints like that. Means you're not a lost cause!"

The Needs of the Many

She watches you for a few seconds and lets out a tired sigh. "How regrettable." After she leaves the Capital you begin to hear grumblings from your own heroes... They can't believe that you thought the chance of helping the entire nation wasn't worth letting the three of them go!

Deny her entry[edit | edit source]

Outcomes[edit | edit source]

There are two possible outcomes, both equally likely.

Gone to Waste

Your decision is sent to her camp and in reply you receive a mantis orchid with a letter attached to it. \"Okay. I had hoped our common goal of helping the nation would've mattered to you, but I guess not. Still, please enjoy the mantis orchid. I brought it all the way from /VAR_5/ and it'd be a shame if your ignorance killed that as well.\" The group quietly leaves that night and after it passes inspection, the orchid is sent to the Royal Gardens for planting.

A Ruler Scorned

Your decision is sent to her camp and in reply you receive... nothing. Not even a brief glance of resentment or ill will. They set out for /VAR_5/ that night, but as you watch them slowly make their way, you feel an intense sense of dread. Then the first complaint of your judgment comes in from a "concerned" citizen. Then the second. By the time the 200th one arrives, that sense of dread is replaced with one of pure misery.

Outcomes[edit | edit source]

There are two possible outcomes, both equally likely.

Accidents Happen

The Queen's carriage has overturned while en route to see you! She is dead! As help rushes out of the throne room, you look at hero first name's expressionless face and hope that this is the last time you'll ever have to make such a decision again.

hero name has gained XP and the Shifty personality.

The amount of XP awarded for the hero is the greater of 25 percent of his or her current XP or 500 points.

Consequences

Luckily, it wasn't clear who was behind the attempt, but rumors have already started to spread about your "displeasure" with the Queen. She falls back to region name that night and as more followers flock to her cause, you get the distinct impression that this won't blow over any time soon.
